Upon graduating from UCLA Law School, Gendler served as a CLIPI fellow from 1980 - 81. Among the cases that Gendler worked on were Sundance and Margolin.
After CLIPI, Gendler became a partner at Irell & Manella, where he headed its entertainment department. In 1995 he co-founded Gendler & Kelly, a prominent entertainment firm based in Beverly Hills, California. There, he specializes in entertainment and sports law, representing numerous high profile Hollywood figures, including Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Shonda Rhimes.
